The next generation of reactor technology, whether fission or fusion, requires advanced materials capable of tolerating extremes in temperature, pressure, corrosion and radiation. The Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee conducts research in a number of areas related to the study of nuclear materials. Faculty members Brian Wirth, Steve Zinkle, David Donovan, and Maik Lang lead research groups studying this field.
